The Japanese Head Spa: A Personal Approach

The head spa began in Japan as a way of caring for the scalp as well as the hair. The idea is simple: treat the scalp with the same attention as the skin, and the hair benefits from a better starting point.
What a Session Involves
At SHAY it begins with a conversation about your hair and scalp. From there the treatment moves through scalp cleansing, hair nourishment, massage and finishing care, at a pace that follows you rather than a clock. It takes 75 minutes, in a private room, with one guest at a time.
Who Performs It
SHAY's founder performs the head spa herself. She trained in the SOZO Tokyo head spa method, and the treatment uses Japanese professional haircare by Milbon and NiNE.
How It Differs From a Hair Ritual
A hair ritual focuses on the lengths: softness, colour care or smoothing. A head spa begins at the scalp and is about the whole experience. Some guests choose one, some the other, and some alternate. If you are unsure, mention it when you book and we will talk it through.
